Who is the suffering servant in the bible?

I have two friends who tell me differently. One is Jewish and the other is Christian. My Christian friend mentions Jesus and the crucifixion. While my Jewish friend goes more into depth and shows me how he believes the Jewish people(Israel-as one unit) are the suffering servant. Who is correct and who is wrong?
