How does Allah (swt) afflict us with a trial if we have free will?

IV always been kind of confused when it comes to the qadr of Allah. It is known that Allah will send down trials to test our faith but how does Allah send down a trial if we have free will. If Allah decides before you were created to give you a trial at a certain part of your life then you would have to do everything in a certain way to be in the position to be afflicted by that trial at that point in your life so therefore your not really doing what you want your just kind of playing out the script and I don't think that Allah decides to give you the trial as time goes on so idk if someone could please explain it would be greatly appreciated
