If Jesus was God, Why didn't he just deliver the message of DO's and Dont's for SIN rather than Crucifixion?

Jesus dying on the cross doesn't seem like a sacrifice at all to me. He knew that he would come back to life "on the third day" (even though it says two elsewhere). Why would God even bother making himself suffer so much for something he should be able to fix by doing less than snapping his fingers?
