Why are there no contemporaneous reports of this 'jesus' character of the 'bible'?

Why, if a miracle worker was walking around 'the holy land' did no one think 'he' was important enough to write about until decades after the supposed 'crucifixion'? Was 'jesus' that much of a nobody that no one cared?
